The story

WebEdit is an application with some history. As a web author, I wanted more than Notepad and the Windows Explorer for managing my projects. Although there have been fancy HTML editors on the market for a long time, the key feature I was missed was seamless integration of file management features within the editor. What I wanted was the ability to open, preview, save or publish files - quickly. This had to be done from one place. I aimed at the redundant convenience that is available in web browsers, namely that one can access information in a variety of ways, with as few steps as possible.

The web browser editor concept was born. WebEdit got an address bar, a history, favorites support, a file searcher, and hyperlink emulation. WebEdit would support the ready use of other applications (such as browsers, other text editors, image viewer/editors), starting right from the information shown in the application itself.

Later, rudimentary FTP support was added. Likewise, source code browsing via HTTP was something I deemed quite useful for discovering what's behind interesting pages on the web.
